When planning to install a new driveway, garage floor or parking area, consider a decorative concrete instead of a plain gray color. It will give the area a designer look without a designer price tag. Stamped, colored, stained or polished surfaces give the appearance of the real material at a reasonable cost. They are as pretty and practical too.

When textured and stamped, it will appear to be flagstone, brick, tile or wood. It can lend an attractive touch to the driveway, courtyard or patio. It is popular because it can be used in the color of choice. It creates the look of the more expensive materials without adding the higher cost.

Use these fancy finishes in large and small areas. When a small area is stamped to look like more expensive stone or marble, it can be a very attractive accent. Some homeowners are choosing a color for the driveway approaching the garage, with a narrow border on each side in a slightly darker shade. The border can give the look of tiles or bricks.

Imagine a pale pink patio in any size or shape. When a red border of brick is added, the effect can be outstanding. Some homeowners prefer all red tone concrete, some plain and some treated to a special finish such as staining. The red tones look wonderful when used on the area surrounding a swimming pool.

On the inside, the entry hall can look exactly like real marble with the mirror like shine. Consider this bright look for a basement recreation room, or one bedroom. When used for flooring in the kitchen, the countertops can be made of the same material in a matching or different shade of the same color.

In addition to the floor it can be used for countertops in the kitchen. The area surrounding a fireplace is capable of being designed in fancy decorative concrete in the color and pattern the homeowner wants. Again, the cost is much lower than for the brick or marble that it resembles.
