Every spring, it's inevitable that we begin to think about cleaning our homes from top to bottom. Spring cleaning is always an admirable feat, but it might not be a huge chore if you made some permanent changes in your home. Your professional interior decorator can help you find ways to keep your home neat and tidy during all of the seasons of the year.
Getting organized is a chore, but it can happen. However, staying organized is the real challenge. After all, clutter seems to build up like magic. We are inundated with "stuff" just about every day and it's easy to become overwhelmed. This is particularly true if our home is not set up with solid organizational systems. Create a few concrete rules for yourself, though, and it can be much easier to reduce the clutter in your home.
For example, whenever you get something new, such as an item of clothing, find one or two pieces of clothing and donate them to a charity shop. If you buy a new set of sheets or a new pair of shoes, get rid of an old set or an old pair. The same rule applies to larger items, such as new furnishings. On the day the new items are delivered, call a favorite charity and set up a time for them to come and take some old furniture or perhaps sell it online or via a consignment shop.
For many of us, it's the paper clutter that really gets us down. Maybe we are great at purging old clothes and shoes, but have boxes filled with old bills, magazines and school reports or kid artwork. There are easy ways to begin to reduce this type of clutter, as well. Many documents can be scanned and stored on your computer or you can purchase an external hard drive for document storage. You might not want to toss the artwork your children create but rather than store it all, take pictures of it or scan it and put it on your computer. Get digital subscriptions to your favorite newspapers and magazines or at least give away old copies of magazines as soon as you have read them. Many of our bills can be sent via email and then you can pay these bills online, which further reduces clutter.
Even with all of these steps, we still have many items that we need to keep, but often there is no place to put them, or perhaps our closets and storage areas are inefficiently designed. If your garage and your closets look like the aftermath of a natural disaster, contact a trusted designer to come and help you make sense of your storage spaces. Interior designers don't have to just focus on the spaces where you live, they also can design functional storage solutions for every room of your house. They can redesign your closets, your garage, your cupboards and even come up with some beautiful shelving and storage solutions that complement your home's dcor.
When all of your items have a place to go, your home will always be easier to keep clean and tidy. Once all of your storage problems have been solved, then all you have to do is ensure that items are put away after use. The sooner you call a designer, the sooner you can transform your home into an organizer's paradise. This year make a commitment to turning spring cleaning into a home organization transformation that lasts for years to come.
