Wherever you live and whatever college you attend, chances are that there are extra-curricular clubs in the area that you can join. With all of the pressures of schoolwork, you may be asking yourself why it would be necessary to put even more of your free time towards something else that isn't schoolwork.

So as you start out in college and try to decide what you want to do with your life, remember that now is the time to dream big. It is a time to plan for your future, but also embrace the present and have fun. Finding a balance between working hard and having a good time is the key to the optimal college experience.

And when you are actually chosen for a position of leadership, there are many things you need to keep in mind. Becoming a top notch club president requires a lot of work, but will mostly be extremely rewarding, and will help you to feel more capable of pursuing a future in leadership. There are many elements of being a good leader, and by mastering them, you will be more successful now, and in the future.

Remember that life as a college student can be very different than life at home, so plan accordingly. Think carefully about your budget and your meals. Skip eating out daily, and you'll have the money and calories to spare when you go out with your friends.

You might not earn any money but you will earn a reward greater - having the satisfaction of knowing that you helped someone. Serving others less fortunate than you is a great reason to join a club.

The skills that you learn as a club president will help you in your future career in business, accounting, or property management. The ability to plan and execute events will allow you to succeed in almost any career, and the experience will be invaluable to the development of your skill set.

If you are unhappy, you will have a more difficult time being successful. That does not mean that you should love every class you take, some classes will be challenging and maybe even boring, but find a way to enjoy even those classes, or at least to reward yourself for attending them.

Beyond leadership skills, you will also increase your ability to lead, and improve your skills more generally. As you use college to prepare for your future, you will be able to build a skill set that will set you apart as a leader in any field you pursue.
