Before deciding on a new job, you have to set your objectives. It's important to improve your individual work performance but at the same time, it's equally important to optimize the overall performance of your company. Making sure those around you are successful will help you succeed.

We always need to set our performance goals within the purview of the business and management objectives. Your bosses have their own ideas on what needs to be done. When we say how to set goals while looking for employment, it's important to take care of the established performance goals set by the company for its employees.

You need to think about what a company needs when you want to work for it. This means that your individual performance goals has to be with the aim to improve the performance of the company to enable it to achieve the goals sent by the company.

While we plan to set our goals while searching for suitable jobs, many of us are tempted to make a common misconception. This misconception underlines the importance of appraisal to evaluate our performance on an individual basis but not on the basis of the entire work unit. Annual performance reviews help people understand what is expected of them. This means that the supervisors and managers normally assess the performance of their subordinates annually. Different types of forms are used for recording the performance attributes of the employees. This process may go smoothly for sometimes but may fail to help identify the performers sometimes. Thus while setting our individual goals, we should least value these appraisals.

A performance appraisal can be important, but it's not the sole thing you should strive for. Many times, managers fail to focus on the vital points of your performance and merely follow the pointers mentioned in the appraisal form. Constantly getting better at what you do is a way of life. There might be some situations that might be beyond your control. Hence the only way to improve your achievements would be to look forward and plan your goals.

So if you are working, but want a new job, set goals like submitting 5 employment applications per day. Try to meet at least 1 new person in your company or field. You can use those contacts to find new jobs. Reading at least 1 blog posting a day in your field can keep you up to date. All of these will help you improved your chances at the job hunt.
