While the official first day of winter for most of the world is December 21st, it’s already upon us here in Iceland – and was celebrated here on October 24th this year (we like to get a head start on everything!).

It's fairly safe to say that we're defying the laws of physics: as cold approaches, we're getting more and more active instead of slowing down, and hibernation isn’t on our schedule – at all.

CloudOpen Europe

Tryggvi Lárusson, our co-founder and CTO, ventured to Linux Foundation’s CloudOpen conference to give a presentation about Open Source Appropriate Technologies(OSAT) and share his views on the future of the cloud.

Senior Developer Ragnar Jóhannsson went along for moral support and they split up to cover more ground and attend as many sessions as possible, gathering their knowledge to share with the rest of us.  It’s almost like we were there too!

Students mix and mingle

Here at headquarters, we hosted about 50 computer science and engineering students from Reykjavik University, who came for snacks and chats with the GreenQloud team about what working here is all about.  We were also happy to have a contingent of MIT students stop by the office as well!

You can view our gallery from the meetup here.

Moving forward

We’re focused on the path ahead, and doing big things along the way.  In the midst of all of this, we are happy to announce that we’ve raised additional funding from Icelandic investors.

November happenings:

Worldwide Meteor Day in Reykjavik & Seattle

We celebrated Worldwide Meteor Day by hosting a meetup in Iceland here at Headquarters and our fearless Co-Founder, Eiki attended the Seattle event.

At each, we connected with local developers, joined the Q&A Live Stream with Meteor Core Developers, and demonstrated QStack™ in action, sharing how the much valued single-pane-of-glass UI was built with Meteor.

SC14, New Orleans

Although we sent Eiki off to the Pacific Northwest to open our new office in the Seattle area, he hasn’t had much time to unpack before setting out again.

He’ll be attending the SuperComputing Conference in New Orleans on November 18-20, to continue our inroads to the US Market.

Sales channel partners

We are excited to hit the ground running in the US market, and soon will begin a new phase that expands our sales channel to include Nuvalo, a premier Seattle-based IT consulting firm specializing in the design and sourcing of hybrid colocation and IaaS deployments around the world.

We’re so pleased join their 5th Anniversary event on December 4th to officially announce our Seattle-area office and demo QStack for a new audience.

In case you missed it...

As usual, we covered a wide range of topics on our blog. Here's what you may have missed in October:

Last word...

As our activities expand, our team continues to grow - we're so pleased to welcome these new faces and their talents to the GreenQloud family!

Kristrun Hoydal Pálsdottir is an Icelander living in Seattle.  She runs her own company in bookkeeping and will work with GreenQloud on processing all invoices and payments and record and process all accounts payable for our US operations.

Sverrir Berg joined the development team as a Senior Developer. He brings valuable experience across the development stack, having successfully shipped software in diverse fields. His personal achievements include holding the highest Icelandic score in Pacman.
