One of the most interesting and classiest of all combat sports is none other than fencing. Fencing lancaster pa is known to be the sport of a gentleman and is known to be the primary duel medium for knights and honorable men during the medieval era in Europe. Today, it is a very well loved sport by many people in a lot of countries including America and the United Kingdom.

For those who would want to take up this fighting form, the first thing to learn would be the on guard stance. Now the on guard stance is a comfortable stance wherein the weight of both feet would be evenly distributed and the right leg is at the front. In this very comfortable stance, one can actually move around naturally and attack or defend.

After one has learned the most basic stance, then the next thing that he will have to learn would be the footwork. The first type of footwork that one will be learning is the advance which is the most basic offense move. In order to do this, one has to just lift up his leading leg, skip forward and bring his back foot forward to end up in the on guard stance again.

The second thing that one will learn is the retreat. Now when one would do the retreat, then he is actually doing the exact opposite of the advance with his back leg moving first. So being the opposite of the advance, this will be a more defensive move wherein one will step back from his enemy.

Now that one knows the basic footwork, then the next thing that one will be learning would be the types of attacks. The first kind of attack that one will learn would be the basic thrust which is actually a long forward stab. This is done in order to stab the opponent deep into the chest and is one of the best ways to score points.

The second technique that one would have to learn is known as disengagement and is actually a counter attack. In order to do this counter attack, one must first anticipate the thrust of his opponent then create a circular movement with his own sword to parry. Once he has parried the attack, then the next thing he must do is a thrust.

Now another very useful technique that one can learn to surprise his opponents is a glide. In order to do this, one would have to make his blade face upward slightly and then he has to make small attacks that do not fully extend his arm. This can be used to slap the sword of his opponent also so that his opponent will not be able to attack properly.

So basically, those are some of the beginner moves that a beginner fencer will learn when he takes up his class. As one can see, this sport is quite a fierce one even though it does look like in the movies. Some of the best schools can be located in cities like Akron, PA where this sport is extremely popular.
