There are many different types of wood. It is one of the most used materials used in construction or in the making of furniture. Each and every one of them possesses characteristics; this is why they can be used in different purposes. They are normally classified into two types namely; hardwood and softwood. Softwood can be obtained from conifer trees whereas hardwood can be obtained from deciduous trees. There is another wood that is known for its grain pattern as well as rich colors that it possesses. Curly Koa wood is its name meaning brave or warrior. It might be one of the most famous and rare woods in the world. In some cultures it was considered as sacred.

It possesses decorative color and texture. This among other reasons is why it is famous. The unique properties shown by the tree is mainly dependent on the age and kind of soil it grew and matured in.

Its ability to be able to resist insects and rotting is among the reasons why it fetches such high market value. It is this among many other special qualities that timber dealers or even carpenters prefer to use this lumber to make different artefacts for instance furniture.

Of all the trees that grow in the forest, only one percent of these produce Koa wood. This is among the major reasons why it is extremely rare to locate. Although it causes a lot of tools to go blunt, its overall performance is fairly good.

In the early years, it was used to make canoes and spears. In this modern world it is mostly used to make furniture, boxes, bowl turning, and even guitars. This is because it has medium bending strength. For many dealers in lumber, it can be described as the best because of its fabulous appearance.

As earlier mentioned, this type of lumber fetches high prices as compared to other types. The reason being its demand is always on the rise while the supply remains constant and sometimes even almost diminishing. One of the factors contributing to this kind of state is that the tree is endemic to only a certain region in that it cannot be planted and thrive the same way in other regions. This, therefore, causes scarcity and low supply.

The lumber is made available in public lands and can only be harvested while dead or if it undergoing the process of decay; it is considered a taboo if you cut it while it is still growing and healthy. It is also illegal if cut from private lands. One could risk serving serious legal issues if caught dealing with it. This makes it to be scarce; hence the high costs of purchasing it.

In addition, this tree possesses a rich historical background. Although its survival is not all that certain; it is a resource that can be enjoyed by future generations. This can only be made possible if the proper measures are put in place and take effect. Such measures would include to ensure that if one is cut another is planted to serve as a replacement. Conservation is the only way to go.
