If you own a motorcycle, you will at some point need to buy spares after a failure or to improve the machine. With modern bikes this is a simple process and spares are readily available. If you own an older bike, searching for Vintage Harley Parts is often difficult and costly.

A few options are available to you when looking for spares for a classic or rare model. Searching for spares can be a time consuming process and in some cases the parts cannot be found at all. Before starting to hunt down rare items it is good practice to take a photo of the old one if you have it so that you can compare it to the replacement.

The internet is a great place to start your quest for find rare and vintage items to fit to your classic bike. A large number of these web sites will have thousands of products listed for sale for old and classic motorcycles. Most online adverts will feature a detailed picture of the item for you to see and a comprehensive description as well as prices.

Harley Davidson dealerships are also an excellent place to visit when searching for rare items. Most main dealers will have huge stocks of parts and many will have older vintage spares which are not advertised in their catalogues. In the event that they do not have what you are searching for they may still point you in the right direction and advise you where to continue looking.

Junk yards are also a very good place to go hunting for rare or discontinued items. Many bikes that have been taken off the road for various reasons can be found piled up in these yards. Many businesses will strip the bike and put spares on shelves but some will not so it is worth taking along some tools in case you need to remove a part from a scrap bike.

Harley Davidson owners clubs can also be another great place to find older spares that are unavailable and discontinued. Club members who have collected for years often have stocks of random parts that they will sell and trade with other bikers. You do not have to be a member to buy from them but it is a good idea to join and they will be happy to help if they can.

After locating the spares for your vintage bike it is a good idea to retain the scrap ones as they may just need repairing or re finishing. This can help other people looking for rarer spares as you can sell it on or trade it. Items such as petrol tanks, brakes and suspension components should always be inspected after repair to ensure they will operate safely.

Always try and fit genuine factory made spares to your machine when possible. Aftermarket or re manufactured items can be used and they will function very well but they can devalue a classic bike massively. It is also worth taking into consideration that a lot of bikers clubs and associations will not let you enter a bike into a show if it is not fitted with factory made parts.
