Newsletter: October 2014

It's been an eventful September and our October schedule is not much more relaxed either. Here's what we've been up to and what's coming your way!

With the summer "hiatus" over we didn't miss a beat getting back to business - a great opportunity for QStack™, a prestigious award and several speaking engagements are just some of our recent accomplishments.

CCP selects QStack™

Ever since the announcement of QStack at Cloud Expo Europe in February, we've seen a wave of interest from significant companies from around the globe. We have multiple pilot programs running and last week we were really pleased to announce our first official QStack customer, the leading independent developer of massively multiplayer games company, CCP Games.

CCP is the ideal customer for QStack, with their intricate IT infrastructure, that includes significant development, staging and production environments.  CCP wanted their private cloud to have hybrid options which could be managed from a single pane of glass. With QStack, CCP can control both their internal infrastructure and burst into a public cloud provider of choice with a full project and departmental overview of usage,” said Jónsi Stefánsson, CEO of GreenQloud.

Green Company of the Year

Our excitement continued when we were named BigAward's "Green Company of the Year" for 2014.

This is a BIG (see what we did there?) deal for us because it acknowledges our founding mission and continuous efforts. We're proud and determined to continue!

Advania Fall Conference

We attended a number of events in September and first up was the 20th anniversary Advania Fall Conference.

Our CMO, Paula Gould addressed the audience (in a fully packed auditorium!) about finding the perfect market fit for a company, citing GreenQloud's example.

NORDUnet

Tryggvi Lárusson, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of GreenQloud traveled to Sweden to speak about hybrid clouds and open source as competitive differentiators at the NORDUnet conference.

While he didn't rise to the challenge we posed to him (to hide a funny, context-alien word in his presentation) and thus forfeited his claim to cake, the presentation was a great success.

IGAC science conference

At the same time as NORDUnet, Carlos Maia, the Country Manager of our Brazilian office, gave a poster presentation at IGAC, a really interesting conference on atmospheric chemistry and global pollution.

His presentation addressed how QStack can break the vicious cycle in climate research and prevent scientists becoming a part of the same CO2 problem they're trying to solve.

IceFish

Back at home, the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition was held and we were there with our Clean Tech Iceland partners, Marorka, Carbon Recycling and and ARK Technology.

We saw a good amount of traffic to our booth, despite the event being targeted to a different audience, and used it as another opportunity to be visible and connect across multiple markets.

Channel Partners event

We also went to New Orleans in order to extend our network and market reach. It was a fruitful event, one that proved QStack™ is capturing the interest of people from all walks of business life.

GreenQloud hackathon

We love hackathons. So when the opportunity came to do our own internal one, the ideas to make our everyday lives easier came flying in.

From remodeling our kitchen, to opening the front door with a single chat command, we accomplished everything we set out to do, including having a lot of fun. (And pizza. And cake.)

You can view our gallery from the hackathon here.

Eiki goes to Hollywood... er, Seattle

With both great sadness and excitement we've sent our co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Eirikur Hrafnsson to open our US office in Seattle.

We'll miss Eiki in the Iceland office and are now considering our very own Eiki-bot.

Happening in October...

Meteor Nordic Meetup, Iceland

We hosted the Icelandic chapter of the Meteor Nordic Meetup, inviting developers and give them an early peek at the latest features of QStack's unified, single pane of glass dashboard - built with Meteor.

We also joined the global Hangout, heard prominent developers speak, and added our own spin on the future of Meteor. You can watch the recorded broadcast here.

CloudOpen Conference, Germany

In the next stop for the fall event circuit, our CTO Tryggvi Lárusson is in Germany to speak at the Linux Foundation's CloudOpen Europe event.

He'll present the concept of Open Source Appropriate Technologies (OSAT), and a way to encourage social change via technology.

In case you missed it...

As usual, we covered a wide range of topics on our blog. Here's what you may have missed in September:

Last word

Our very own Content Manager has been making waves across the online community. Yeah, he's kind of a big thing now (can we get your autograph already?!). Check out his coverage on Meshfire and G2 Crowd.

... one more thing...

Skeggi

Gimmi

Our team grew, with two new senior developers coming on board: Skeggi Þormar and Grímur Jónsson. Both of them bring a lot of experience and talent to the team, and we're happy to welcome them to the GreenQloud family!

We're also hiring for a position on our Marketing team: if you have experience in marketing and communications, are fluent in English and Icelandic (written and oral) and want to join a world-class team building awesome things, we want you!
