Any technology that continues to be useful sees constant improvement. Sometimes, a single year of development can bring drastic improvements from one version to the next. One area that continues to see progression is smart home technology. Many homes are bringing what were just sci-fi concepts from decades prior into our homes today. Many types of smart home technology use automation to make everyday tasks simpler. They might, for example, automatically adjust lighting based on time of day and people present in the room, or even begin cooking dinner before you are home from work.

Smart Windows: Nearly everybody values their personal privacy. No one wants nosy neighbors peering into their home. Usually, to avoid this, blinds would need to be drawn or curtains closed. However, homes with smart windows can change at the flip of a switch. When desired, an electrical current polarizes the window, transforming the clear glass into privacy-friendly tinted glass. Automatic sensors, which change the tint color based on the light level, ensure a well-lit home.

Smart Kitchen: Cooking is one thing that many people seem to have less and less time for these days. So it makes sense that the kitchen would be a good area to focus smart technology on. One very exciting advancement is a regulated oven. In the morning, you can place a meal inside the oven, ready to be cooked. The oven will keep it refrigerated until the designated time for it to begin cooking. You could have a hot meal waiting for you as soon as you get home.

Laundry is another household chore that people tend to sigh over. But again, smart technology can make it easier to deal with. Many new washing machines now come with steam features. Hot steam is better than liquid water at removing stains and odors and sanitizing the fabrics. Additionally, dryers with a steam cycle will make certain that your clothes are free of wrinkles when the timer goes off.

Smart Entertainment: Benefiting the most from the recent focus on smart technology has been TV rooms across the country. With built-in internet and the technology to stream videos, never before has the television been so diversified in its capabilities. Devices like Chromecast and Apple TV make it easier than ever to put the internet's content on your TV. These devices also give you the ability to mirror your phone or tablet's content onto the big screen. Sony's new Playstation TV can stream content from a PS4. This allows you to play games in your bedroom, while the console sits in your living room.
