For many years already, landscape design is an old art form that has evolved over time as the its popularity increased. This all started sometime during the year of 1700 wherein many rich families had a big plot of land around their houses that was vacant. Since they wanted their houses to be grand, they hired some artists to help design that plot of land and make it look beautiful.

Architects who worked in this field played around with garden items like trees, plants, and grass designs. Naturally, they would add other things to the land like lamps or benches. Some homeowners would even add a swimming pool or a fountain just to attract some attention from the public.

Sometime during the year 1800, many people were beginning to be aware of this kind of architecture simply because many were already springing up. The parks around the area needed a lot of designing because more and more people were going there. More shrubs, fountains, trees, flowers, benches, and lamps were added to make the park look good.

If one is a creative person who likes to look at scenery and play around with different types, then this will definitely be the ideal job. Today, not only wealthy or rich people may may hire architects in this field simply because almost everybody can afford it these days. One who has even a small garden or yard may add a little bit of spice to it.

As compared to before, it is now possible for even an average homeowner to be able to make use of the services of architects in this field. It is actually not that expensive to hire an architect in this field. If one would want to cut down on costs, he may even pick his own materials so that he will be able to more or less know the price that he would have to pay.

Having balance is an extremely important principle in modern landscape architecture. It is in fact one of the most basic of all principles which states that in entirety, the whole design has to be balanced. This means that the right and left must be in sync with each other and the center has to be filled with something small that would actually balance out the two sides.

Now color and texture will also play an important role here because it is the thing that will most likely catch the eye. When it comes to color, color combination is extremely important because one cannot have contrasting colors in a garden or yard. Of course the texture of the decorations are important because it is what the people will be eyeballing.

In landscape design, it is very important to take note of the concept of continuity or seeing the area as a whole. In other words, the designer already has to know the big idea of his whole project in his mind before he concentrates working on each of the parts. If he already has the entire concept in his mind, then he may fill in the details.
