If you have deep, cystic acne, you may find that over-the-counter medications aren't very helpful. A dermatologist may prescribe Accutane for these kinds of cases. Accutane is a powerful medication that is taken as a pill, and generally is not prescribed lightly. If your doctor feels this is the right treatment for you, be sure to take it exactly as prescribed, and always report any side effects to your physician.

If you are having problems with adult acne, try laundering your pillow cases and towels more frequently. Most dermatologists recommend changing your pillowcase once or twice weekly and using a clean towel every day. This is because bacteria and dead skin cells can quickly accumulate on the surface of these fabrics, which can then clog pores and cause acne.

Limiting the amount of dairy foods and red meat that you eat can help you reduce acne. These foods are difficult to digest and cause acid to form in our bodies. Give it time. Sometimes, it can actually just be best to wait your acne out. Mild pimples breakouts will usually clear up on their own within a couple of months. Using too many products to try and get rid of the pimples might just confuse and irritate your skin. It could even make the pimples worse.

To treat mild to moderate zits, you must first adopt a two-part skincare regimen that includes regular use of a systemic approach -prescription medications that inhibit bacterial growth and oil production- and a topical element. Topical elements include creams, ointments, oils, or solutions. This combination will ultimately reduce the appearance and severity of most types of pimples.
