The Curious Case Of The Weeping Statue Mary

Many urban legends have stemmed out about the crying statue of mother Mary. A lot of people would say that it is the work of some sort of supernatural force while the Catholic church would call it a miracle on earth. Of course, these cases were all investigated for any type of explanation. One of the more popular scientific explanations was made by a Dr Luigi Garlaschelli of the University of Pavia. According to Garlaschelli, there is a scientific phenomenon for the so called miracle and he aimed to prove it by creating his own crying holy mother figure.
He made his statue out of a plaster material that had a glazing that could absorb liquids. After that, he tried making some scratches and small holes in the eyes area of his figure. He was able to discover that when there is a crack in the plaster, there is a high chance that the liquid absorbed by the thin plaster would come out and make the figure look like it is crying.
Now, the Brisbane church incident was more of a hoax case as compared to the 1953 case which was more natural. Now, the investigation team made by the archbishop was actually able to find that the scented oil was a brand that could be bought from a regular store. His team was also able to find out that the blood that came out from the eyes of the figure was not actually blood. Lastly, they found some holes in the eyes which looked like injection holes.
