There are different varieties and a wide range of insects. Some of which are beneficial to humans as they assist with pollination of flowers, hence ensuring life is continued in the plant kingdom. But it goes without saying that certain insects are a nuisance considering that the problems they cause outweigh their usefulness. Insects that are a nuisance need to be controlled because among other adverse effects they can contribute to spread of diseases. One must exercise caution when choosing insect spray systems.

The use of timed-release outdoor residential misting systems keeps rising and many homeowners are buying them. That is what statistics in the US indicate. The systems are purchased to curb the presence of insects, like flies and mosquitoes in houses and home compounds. Misrepresented information on such systems is always aired by and media. This gives people hard a time on deciding the eligibility of the units. Government sources of information are the safest and most accurate to follow.

Other names used to refer to insect misting systems are mosquito misters and residential misting systems. The equipment is designed to kill mosquitoes and other insects by spraying a fine mist of insecticide on it. These devices comprise of spray nozzles which are installed around the compound. The nozzles are mounted on fences, landscaping, lawns, and trees among other places.

The various nozzles that are installed around the home are connected to a supply of insecticide using tubing. Turning a valve on the container holding the insecticide allows fine mists to be released by the nozzles. Timers have been incorporated in modern products so that the insecticide is released at preset time intervals. Some come with remote controllers that one can use to switch the system on and off.

Pyrethrins and permethrin are the main ingredients contained in insecticides commonly sprayed in outdoor environment. Piperronyl butoxide is also an ingredient in some products as well. Normally, all insecticides contain active components. The components are listed on the container label for readers to see. What type of insecticides can be used in a given area is subject to restrictions by state governments. Before installing the mister, knowing the kind of pesticides permitted is essential.

Using insecticides or other insect control products which are prohibited by the law is going against the law. Offenders are punished by imprisonment or hefty fines. The container label is also clear on the expected rate of application. The different precautions enforced are for the purposes of protecting animal and human life besides conserving the environment.

The effectiveness of mosquito misters in controlling the general populations of insects is something that has not been dwelt on so much in studies. Determination of the effectiveness of this method still requires more research. Although, the available researched information point to the effect that adopting an integrated approach in which several varied methods are used together is the best way of controlling insects.

For instance, since mosquitos need water to breed, ensuring that such water is not available around the compound can help a lot in reducing their population. Items such as cinderblocks, old tires, flower pot saucers, cans, and jars, which hold water should be eliminated from the compound. Bushes and other hiding places fo mosquitos should also be eliminated.
