If one has the passion for writing and the passion for traveling, one of the job opportunities that he can look into is becoming a professional travel writer. While being a freelance travel writer may entail some capital and some planning, just like in a business, the rewards are endless. If one wants to go into this path, then here are a few things he needs to do.

The first thing that he has to do is to brush up on his writing skills. The best way to do this is to first get a writing job, in for example, a magazine or an ad agency and build credibility from there. If one wants to enter this field, then he is selling both his name and his skills both of which need to be enhanced.

After one has gained enough experience in the workforce, then he may choose to either offer writing services to clients or make his own site or blog. If he offers services to clients, then he may have his trips subsidised if the client agrees. If he goes on his own, then he has to fund his own trip.

If he decides to go with the second option and become independent, then he must find a way to finance his trip. One option is to get an investor or a financier who is willing to invest in this kind of venture. Another option is to save up for a trip and start out small in more affordable place.

Now, the next thing that he has to do is to visit places. For this, he will need to decide on the traveling niche that he wants to take like he may choose to write about cultures, food, scenery, tourist attractions etc. Selecting a niche ensures that he will have a specialty so that if he wants clients or if he wants to go independent, his target market will benchmark his specialty already.

In order to get into this field, one may actually just research about different places around the world and write about it. However, if one wants to really go big, then there is no substitute for actually traveling and experiencing different countries firsthand. Now during travels, it is very important for one to carry along a travel journal in order to record all the interesting things there.

The last thing that one has to do is to post articles regularly and market them. If one is working for clients, then the marketing will be left to the client while one just has to write the story. However, if one has his own travel site or blog, then he has to think of his own marketing strategy and promotion.

Basically, these are some of the things that one has to do if he wants to get into this sort of field. Now, do take note that it doing this sort of thing is quite tiring because of the traveling involved but if one really enjoys this, then it should be no issue. It is like combining work and pleasure at the same time.
