Thanks to the fact that sunbathing is finally becoming unpopular, more people turn to self tanning products. They are safe to use, they provide great summer glow and everyone looks so much better, thinner and healthier. Self tanning products include foams, creams and lotions, and all the good ones have the same characteristic. They all contain a sugar-based component called DHA.

DHA has a strange characteristic. Applied on the skin, it causes chemical reaction with amino acids in surface skin layer. The result is very appealing golden bronze hue. More DHA in your self tanning product will create darker shade. Of course, there are other additives in your lotion, such as moisturizers, fragrances and color enhancers.

If your goal is just to bring some color to your skin and refresh your natural complexion, your chosen shade should be only a few nuances darker than your natural tan. In summer time, you can go crazy with deep bronze self tanning foams and lotions. In any case, there are some tips and tricks for applying sunless tan products even more successfully.

Pull your hair up before starting with the application. It is important to exfoliate the face first, to remove all those dead skin cells. Make a mixture of a few drops of selected self tanning lotion and a little bit of your favorite face moisturizer. Apply it on your face and neck first, and then to your ears. Make sure not to miss the spot.

There is a clever little trick for achieving very nice results. Apply a small amount of some eye cream under your eyes before applying your self tanning lotion. This way these areas will remain a little lighter, and it will make you appear younger. After your tan sets, you can add some bronzer to your nose, forehead and cheeks.

Vaseline will protect your nails and cuticles from stains. Stains on your nails can be removed by nail polish remover, but toothpaste can also be helpful. If nothing else help, try soaking your fingers in your denture cleaner. It is usually very effective.

You have to exfoliate your entire body before starting applying a self tanning lotion. Pay special attention to heels, knees and elbows. If you need to shave, do it at least a day before the treatment. For sensitive skin, it's better to use good baby oil instead of your usual shaving cream. It will soften your skin and make it especially smooth.

Moisturizing is always important, but after applying self tanning lotion, you should moisturize daily. Another important thing is to use gloves when applying sunless tan lotion. Stained hands and dark palms aren't very appealing, but you can remove those stains using a mixture made of honey and baking soda. Instead of baking soda you can use salt or even some iced sugar. This paste will work well on streaks, too.

Paying a visit to a professional self tanning salon is still the best option. Your favorite shade can be applied using airbrush, by highly experienced technician. Another good, more affordable method is using tanning booths. The color is equally adorable and this treatment is perfectly harmless if you follow given instructions.
