Security is a rising concern in the inner city as well as the suburbs of most cities including Long Island, New York. The government and other independent contractors have been making use of various security systems and measures to help fight the increasing levels of insecurity. In areas such as Long Island surveillance systems have been set up all over to capture any wrongful acts. This surveillance collected is then used as evidence against the perpetrators.

There are various types of surveillance systems available. These have different levels of complexity and advancements in terms of software and firmware, as well as hardware support. These differences serve to provide adequate services to different people with varying security needs and concerns. For example a person may require surveillance for their home and business as well, but these need not be the same in terms of complexity and the security level they provide.

Closed Circuit Television cameras, or as they are better known, CCTV, have been around for a while. These have sort of been the backbone of most security systems available today. They have also acted as a stepping stone in the development of more complex systems. They also have the widest adaptation, where they are used in homes, government and private offices and even on streets.

Video link systems are especially common as home security measures. These are installed with the option of recording or simply just observation. Most homes are wired with the networks at the door, so as to have a visual of who they are about to let in. This is usually coupled with an intercom system to allow for verbal communication.

Several high level offices are being set up with more than one security system. Access Restriction setups are fast becoming a necessity in such areas. These are installed so as to screen the incoming person and assess if they should be granted access into the building. These also come in various advanced levels and are more advanced in terms of their checking as you go further into the more secured areas of the building.

The most common of these screening and restriction setups usually use a card access system. In this type, the people who are allowed access have with them either a card, key or other security device with some information embedded in it. Once the networks read the card, it assesses the details to determine whether the holder is allowed access. There are better setups used to secure higher level sections and safes. These use a person's biometric information to allow access.

There are many other forms of surveillance systems, some of which are less commonly used by the civilian population. Some of these are but for high level security. Most are however used by secret service and government agencies. These include global positioning and tracking systems (GPS), camera mounted and remote controlled surveillance drones, and other high level networks that track and record computer networks and transactions, telephone conversations.

Security and inspection setups are many and of varied competences. Their common goal however is to increase security. They provide a means of tracing criminals despite the avenue of crime. There have been advancements in these networks whereby they have been adopted in the fight against Cyber-crime, and proving to be really useful.
