Fishing is a favorite past time activity among many people. This is because it is not expensive and is also great for the family as a whole. Besides, it is not physically engaging and is great for relaxation. If fishing has been a little boring of late then you have not been Red River catfishing. It is the ultimate challenge and experience.

These species of fish are huge in size and are fighters; it is not easy to fish them. They are unrivalled in size and abundance and are the record breakers in the whole world. The cats average 15 pounds, with the biggest over 40 pounds. The record for the biggest blue ever caught is 143 pounds heavy and 57 inches long.

This river measures around 885km and has North Dakota as its starting point and ends in Winnipeg Lake in Manitoba. It is very common to hear Red River and catfish mentioned in the same breath. This arises because the river is the most famous source of cats. When anything comes up about catfishes, Red River comes into mind and vice versa.

More than 70 species of fish exist in this river. There are various catfish species that are fund in Red River including Channel, Northern Pike, Mooneye, Bullheads, Walleye and Sauger. The type of bait to use usually depends on what you prefer. Channels are opportunistic and will feed on just about anything that swims by. Bait to use includes shrimps, chicken liver, chicken gizzards.

Sinkers are used to ensure that the bait remains at the bottom. The knot is protected from the sinker by the use of a bead or tubing. The swivel is to allow the bait to turn in the direction of the current and also to prevent twists in the line. Use the correct size for the hook depending on the fish to be caught. Along all spots in the river you will find cats. For some they prefer the bottom while others are in ponds. Yet others are found in depressions and holes in this river. Catfishes are best caught between 12 and 6 am.

Catfish eat almost anything varying from plants, fish and fish eggs. They also seem to love worms as well as leeches. In adulthood, they are able to eat other bigger fishes. Cats also love dead matters hence are opportunistic feeders and they also love to feed at night time. They can be found along any part of the river; bottoms, depressions as well as ponds.

Cats have strong smell sense and use their whiskers to find food. Night feeding is important to them because their prey is asleep. In addition, they can survive in polluted water with low oxygen. Their sense of taste and smell is top notch. The bait has just to be near the whiskers for them to sense it. Their sense of sight is excellent and can feel noise and vibrations in water.

Cat fishing is an awesome experience for families and even the corporate world. It creates a sense of bond and fun for the family. For business partners or companies keen to influence a client or an investor, it can also be very handy. It is best to hire a boat when you go fishing and also get a guide.
