April was an exciting month, with Earth Day, lots of community events and a slew of holidays including Icelandic Labour Day.  It goes without saying that things are really heating up in May here too, which is kind of expected, it being Icelandic summer and all...

Discover innovative Iceland– Paris edition

In late April, Paula Gould, our Chief Marketing Officer headed to Paris to an event hosted by the French-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce. The event focused on exploring business opportunities across various industry sectors including tourism, film production, biomedical advancements, energy innovation and the data industry.

Supported by Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ambassador to France Berglind Ásgeirsdóttir and featuring a marquee roster of speakers such as Iceland investment executive Helga Valfells, CEO of Nýsköpunarsjóður, the event gave GreenQloud a platform to share our cleaner cloud computing services and to connect with companies in France looking to implement or augment their cloud infrastructure.

Women in Tech (Konur í Tækni)

Our Women in Tech (Konur í Tækni) initiative explores the local and global effects women have and can have on the direction technology companies will take, and the advantages of increasing the number of women joining the industry. During our last event, held at GreenQloud’s office in celebration of Earth Day, we explored a wider, less technology-focused topic: the effect women have on corporate social responsibility (CSR) competencies, policies and directions.

Girls in ICT (Stelpur og Tækni)

As part of our Women in Tech initiative and part of the Girls in ICT network and in conjunction with Reykjavik University, we also hosted a group of students at GreenQloud HQ – speaking with them about what it means to be working in technology, how we are changing cloud computing for the better and we even shared some fun stories from our team about using technology for good!

Chef workshop

We co-hosted, with Reykjavik University, a three day hands-on workshop to learn more about Chef.

We learned a lot, both from an organizer’s and a Chef-practitioner’s perspective. The workshop covered everything from an introduction to Chef through Node objects, up to creating custom resources and addressing report and exception handling.

Icelandair in-flight magazine features GreenQloud

We’re currently featured in the Spring 2014 edition of Icelandair’s in-flight magazine – perfect timing for those flying into Iceland for Startup Iceland at the end of this month.

Coming up!

Terena

We’re heading to Terena, an exciting conference in Dublin, Ireland 19 – 22 May. Terena – the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association offers a forum to collaborate, innovate and share knowledge in order to foster the development of Internet technology, infrastructure and services to be used by the research and education community. We’re looking forward to connecting with other attendees and showcasing GreenQloud’s QStack, Virtual Private Cloud and public cloud services.
