Crib safety has been paid a lot of attention effective February 1974. Conformity to strict safety codes is an obligation of manufacturers of baby crib sets. A large number of serious crib accidents necessitated this rule. Assurance that the features of a crib that has been with a family conform to current safety standards is a must.

Not more than 2 3/8 inches apart is the standard for the distance between the crib slats of baby crib sets. This is for the prevention of the heads or limbs of babies from getting caught in between them, an occurrence that could lead to injury, and worst, to strangulation. Never to be used are cribs with missing slats or spindles.

The metal hardware of baby crib sets must not have any rough or sharp edges where a baby could accidentally fall against. The locks and latches on the drop-side of the crib must be perfectly working to make sure the baby cannot accidentally release them and fall out of the crib.

An important aspect in the creation of an ideal nursery for the little one is the assurance of a safe and comfortable bed. A big part of this aspect is the purchase of soft and breathable crib bedding sets. The ideal baby bed sheets not only add style to the nursery but give the baby a perfect place to sleep.

Crib bedding sets with sheets that have elasticized edges and fit the crib mattress snugly must be chosen to ensure the safety of the baby as well as prevent the sheet from slipping off the mattress. It must always be remembered that loose sheets are hazards to safety.

Babies must not get too warm when sleeping. Weather conditions and room temperatures must always be considered. Crib bedding sets with cotton sheets work well for most situations while crib bedding sets with flannel sheets are set aside for cooler conditions.
